Campus Announcements
A note from our Principal
August 20, 2015

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the staff at Read-Turrentine Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2015-2016 school year!

We are so excited about the building progress on our new Silsbee Elementary school. Hopefully our campus will be moving in sometime this school year!

Our school met all state standards and received two Distinction Designations from the state for our excellent STAAR scores last year. Our students and staff are to be commended for their hard work! Our school is a Title 1 campus. All staff members, teachers, and paraprofessionals are Highly Qualified. Parents may request the qualifications of any teacher their child has during the school year.

We look forward to partnering with you in helping your child achieve their highest potential academically. We know that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We share the responsibility for our students’ success and want you to know we are totally committed to do our part. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by making sure that he/she:

  • Attends school daily and arrives on time
  • Wears their student ID daily. These are used for safety identification, breakfast, lunch, and library checkout. Replacement ID costs $5.00.
  • Completes all assignments
  • Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
  • Shares their daily school experiences with you

I want to encourage and challenge you as parents to stay in close contact with your child’s teachers.
Our staff is always open and available to meet with you as needed.

Once again, welcome to our school! Here’s to a fabulous school year!

Sincerely,

Darlene Watson

A Few Reminders:
  • Please do not drop students off in front of the school. The drop off area is near the gym in the mornings. The drop off  line opens at 7:30.

  • For car pick up in the afternoons, make sure you have a car tag hanging from your rear view mirror. He will assign your child to a colored pole for pick up. Please do not call your child to the car. This will greatly assist Mr. Barton as he calls the names in the car line.

  • Please try to make all transportation changes noted before 1:30. This will help us in notifying the student and teacher in a timely manner. Do not leave transportation messages on the teacher’s voicemail as they may not be able to retrieve the messages in time for afternoon dismissal.

  • Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 7:30- 7:50. This is a change from the “Breakfast in the Classroom”  program that we had last year. Breakfast costs $1.65 daily or .30 daily for students on the reduced plan.

  • Our school day begins at 7:55 A.M. and ends at 3:20. Students arriving  late after 8:05 are considered tardy. This is coded as a “part of day” absence in our Skyward student system.

  • 9:00 is now our official attendance time. Students arriving after 9:00 A.M. are coded absent for                    the day.

  • All absences, whether excused or unexcused, will require a parent note upon the student’s return to school. The note should include the date, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and a parent signature. Parent’s notes regarding absences should always be turned into the attendance clerk no later than five school days following the absence.
